Ashley’s Least Favorite Flicks

We all know that life is short. Time should be invested instead of wasted. So if I could go back in time and un-see some films (especially those below), I would. To save you time, I have listed five movies that I believe robbed me of a fraction of my life (if one of your guilty pleasure films ends up on this list, I’m sorry).

1. Surfer Dude
I know Matthew McConaughey wanted to show his range but I can’t even give you a plot description for this gem. I love seeing Mr. McConaughey shirtless as much as the next girl but after about forty-five minutes, I was wiped out. Continue reading

The List: Ashley’s Favorite Ben Affleck Movies

Last month it was revealed that our favorite Boston boy will soon be moving into Wayne Manor. Don’t worry, this post is not a list of reasons why Affleck will make a great Batman. In fact, I will agree that Affleck seems to be more successful at writing and directing than he is at acting (see numerous nominations and wins). With his newest film Runner Runner released this month, I thought it might be fun to list my favorite Ben Affleck movies. Continue reading

Fallon’s Favorite Finds… on Noisetrade

Noisetrade

Thank God for Noisetrade! I’m always looking for new music (really, it’s a sickness). So, you may imagine when I found this site last year that the heavens opened, a beam of light shone down, and a chorus’ “Ahhh” followed thereafter. I mentioned a few months ago that I found one of my favorite bands, Hey Ocean!, through them (read about it here). I’m happy to say that I’ve found a bunch of other bands to put in my iPod since. That said, here are few more of my favorite finds on Noisetrade. Happy listening!

The List: Ashley’s Favorite Summer Movies

It seems like after the Fourth, summer just flies by. In what’s left of my vacation, I decided to compile a list of my favorite summer movies. By “summer movies,” I mean those that remind me of sun, sand, and 5 day rentals at our local video store.

The-Sandlot

The Sandlot: Believe it or not, this baseball classic just celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The List: Fallon’s Favorite Foreign Films (say that 10 times fast)

Ten of my favorite foreign films made within the last decade, listed in no particular order…

LifeisBeautiful“This is my story. This is the sacrifice my father made. This was his gift to me.”

1 Life is Beautiful-La vita è bella (Italy, 1997)

I’ve read a lot of criticism about how this film flippantly deals with the Holocaust, but I disagree. The film speaks to the preservation of innocence and the human spirit, even in the darkest of times. I laughed; I cried. Life is beautiful. So is the movie. I recommend it without reservation.

castle“This isn’t a house, it’s our home!”

2 The Castle (Australia, 1997)

A David vs. Goliath set up of Darryl Kerrigan, the story’s hero, against the airport that wants to take his home for expansion purposes. This movie is hilarious and you’ll be rooting for Darryl and his family all the way. With dialogue like, “He know friend, I know friend… My friend come to your house, put bomb under your car and BLOW YOU TO F***ING SKY!!!… I do not really have friend like this, but you know I’m Arab, and people think Arab have bomb” (-Darryl’s neighbor, Farouk) you can’t help but laugh out loud.

April Blogger Challenge: Who’s Your Favorite Blogger?

Well, for me this is the easiest blog post of this month’s challenge. I didn’t have to think hard (woot!) or look far for the answer to this one. Who is my favorite blogger? Dana at The Dragyn’s Lair wins this award!

She has inspired all of us here at The Miserables with her blog and has encouraged us in our endeavor to start our own. She even came up with this month’s challenges to help keep us writing!

Dana’s blog, The Dragyn’s Lair, is unique and varied. From trips to Disneyland to product reviews, there’s always something new and interesting going on there. She also does giveaways which are a lot of fun. So far, I’ve won twice! And no, I didn’t get special treatment for being a friend (it was a raffle people!).

She is also a great supporter of other bloggers and blogging in general. She is dedicated, passionate, professional, as well as full of information and SO helpful! I think she does so well with her blog because she genuinely wants to connect with her audience to make their lives better, whether that’s through entertaining posts, informative reviews of products, or giveaways.  You can go visit her blog here: The Dragyn’s Lair. And if you stop by, let her know that we sent you!

The List: Favorite Break- Up Songs

The List is a way of organizing our thoughts on a certain topic into an easily digestible post. Topics may range from ranking films of a certain actor who has an upcoming release, to even something as simple as listing our breakfast cereals of choice. Anything is game. Length will vary depending on the individual writing said list, and jumping from one topic to the next may leave you feeling a little dizzy, but FUN (from our perspective at least) is our weapon of choice.

What’s your favorite break-up song? Every time I ask this question I always get the strangest looks. Why would you have a favorite song for such a depressing event? Dane Cook explained it best in one of his stand-up routines, “Sometimes the world taps you on the shoulder and says, you’re going to cry today.” Break-ups are inevitable, like dropping a plate full of spaghetti onto your lap when you are wearing white. I have found that most everyone has a go-to song to describe exactly how they feel in that moment. I think knowing someone else who has gone through this exact situation, and lived through it, is very comforting. So after polling my friends, here are just a few of our favorite break-up songs:

1 End of the Road- Boyz II Men

2 I Can’t Make You Love Me- Bonnie Raitt

3 Someone Like You- Adele

4 Don’t Look Back in Anger- Oasis

5 Miserable at Best- Mayday Parade

6 Fighter- Christina Aguilera

7 Stupid Boy- Keith Urban

8 Nothing Compares to You- Sinead O’Connor

9 Nothing Else Matters- Metallica

10 Don’t Cry- Guns and Roses

Did your song make the list?

April Blogger Challenge: Favorite Color

For my third and final reveal in this month’s blogger challenge, I will confess that my favorite color is green.

Wow, I feel better now that I have gotten that off my chest!

Now, as to why it is my preference I had to reach way back to my earliest of memories. The only thing I could think of was how my oldest sister, Stephanie, used to wear a retainer. She housed her retainer in a neon green plastic case. It reminded me of the same case that Julia Roberts’s character in Pretty Woman hid her rent money in at the beginning of the movie. Crazy, I know, but I think that just may be where my fascination with the color green began.

I now pass the torch to Andrew and Hillari for the next part of our April Blogger Challenge!
